At the recent OSCON, Docker founder Solomon Hykes shared “lessons learned” from his experience with open source. Among them:
- “Once you say yes, you can never take that back.” In other words: unless you are confident about introducing a new feature, you should just say “no.”
- Open source “levels the playing field in terms of competition.”
Hykes also introduced three new open source projects during his talk, including HyperKit (virtualization toolkit for OS X), DataKit (pipeline framework for distributed components) and VPNKit (library for embedding virtual networking).
