At the recent DockerCon 16, Azure CTO Mark Russinovich introduced several new containerization capabilities from Microsoft. These new capabilities function on both Azure public cloud and on-prem data centers, and include SQL Server running in Linux containers, as well as Docker Datacenter on the Azure Marketplace, among others.

Russinovich brings a server on stage with him (around 56:30 in the video) and uses the Azure control plane to manage not only cloud elements, but an on-premises solution. This is a really cool presentation on Docker and Microsoft:
